In today’s rapidly evolving landscape of municipal asset management, the integration of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has proven to be a game-changer for local governments. This presentation will explore how the Township of North Huron has elevated its asset management program by leveraging open-source GIS solutions, building on its initial efforts to meet provincial regulatory requirements. Several years ago, North Huron embarked on its asset management journey to align with Ontario’s regulations for municipal asset management. Over time, the Township has advanced this program to enhance decision-making, resource allocation, and service delivery. By adopting open-source GIS technologies, North Huron has gained the ability to efficiently visualize, manage, and analyze critical infrastructure data without the high costs associated with proprietary software.
